It’s that time of year.
Cold.
Warm.
Hot.
Ice.
Like emotions,
up and down, side to side.
The unpredictable predictable,
of the salt and pepper of life.
The season commands depth,
warmth,
forced via the heat element.
But nature also commands:
the inner wounds to be hidden.
Underneath the bark, the cracked exterior that disguises it all.
But you know, don’t you?
That the salt and pepper of Fall,
is the salt and pepper within.
You feel it, can’t you?
The depth.
The burning.
The slicing ice.
Sliced emotions heart beating,
faster, faster:
it stops.
Just for a moment.
It stops.
That’s the salt.
It stings, doesn’t it?
Breathe, brother: breathe.
Here’s the balance for you sister:
the pepper.
Yes the face crinkles spits and faffs:
as the bitterness teases and taints the taste buds.
But now: you have both:
brother, sister, friend:
you have both seasonings for the season.
Balance,
is not all it seems.
In love, Matt xx
